Corporate Responsibility is about values, words and – above all – deeds
Family ownership and 115 years' experience in the paper industry lay the foundation for MYLLYKOSKI's long-term commitment and comprehensive approach to sustainability.
Environmental management systems designed to promote continuous improvement provide guidance in all corporate operational and strategic decisions. All European mills and Madison mill in the United States are ISO 14001 certified.
Certified quality and environmental management systems, environmental reporting, Paper Profile data sheets, Nordic Swan and German Blue Angel eco-labels, Environmental Paper Assessment Tools, and certified chain of custody systems for responsible fibre sourcing: all these are among the tools that MYLLYKOSKI is using to promote sustainable business practices and products.
MYLLYKOSKI strongly supports forest certification based on independent third party verification. The two main forest certification systems are PEFC and FSC. Both systems are international in scope with internationally agreed principles and rest on third-party, independent certification in order to guarantee compliance with a defined set of performance standards proving that the wood raw material originates from sustainably managed forests and from legal sources.
Most MYLLYKOSKI mills are certified to the PEFC and/or FSC chain of custody standards. A certified and consistent chain of custody process from the forest to the end-use confirms the amount of wood fibre which originates from certified forest.
MYLLYKOSKI is a pioneer within the paper industry in the use of recovered paper and de-inking technologies and has expanded the use of recovered fibre to include most of the printing and publishing grades. However, recycling requires a constant complement of fresh fibres, so fresh fibre from sustainably managed forests remains an indispensable raw material in paper production.
