Myllykoski Corporation has always recognized that its own long-term interests and those of its various stakeholders depend on compliance with the highest standards of ethical conduct and applicable law.
Myllykoski Corporation and every Myllykoski Group company (hereinafter “Myllykoski”) employee is expected to conduct himself or herself, and his or her business, in line with this code without exception. Stricter guidelines or more detailed instructions may be appropriate for certain regions or countries, but they should not contradict this Code. Myllykoski Corporation periodically reviews this code of conduct and is committed to making changes in its content and implementation when changes or further clarification so demand.
Ethics and Law
Myllykoski is strongly committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct, and full compliance with all applicable laws. This includes, for example, those relating to competition law, corporate governance, preventing bribery, illicit payments and corruption, safety in the intended use of the products Myllykoski Corporation delivers to customers, labour laws and practices, the environment, human rights laws and internationally recognized standards.
Myllykoski's goal is practising good corporate citizenship wherever it does business.
Human Rights
Myllykoski will respect and promote human rights. Myllykoski recognizes, with the international community, that certain human rights should be considered fundamental and universal, based on accepted international laws and practices.
Among those rights that Myllykoski views as fundamental and universal are: freedom from any discrimination based on race, creed, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, age, religion, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, connections with a national minority, disability, or other status; freedom of peaceful assembly and association; freedom of thought, conscience and religion; and freedom of opinion and expression.
Conflicts of Interest. Gifts & Bribes
Myllykoski employees must avoid activity that leads to a conflict of interest. This includes, but is not limited to acceptance and giving of personal gifts or hospitality, to or from Myllykoski stakeholders, other than gifts of reasonable hospitality given in the ordinary course of business. Any agreement or understanding regarding favours or benefits in exchange for the gifts must be avoided. Myllykoski and its employees will not pay or offer to pay bribes or other illicit payments to government officials or candidates, or other parties, in order to obtain or retain business.
Workplace Practices
Myllykoski employees promote individual responsibility, teamwork, and the strength that comes from diversity. Myllykoski will strive to pay fair compensation, and provide a safe and healthy workplace for employees. Myllykoski is committed to equality of opportunity in all its employment practices, policies and procedures. Job requirements fulfilled, no employee or potential employee will, therefore, receive less favourable treatment due to their race, creed, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, age, religion, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, connections with a national minority, opinion, disability, membership or non-membership of a trade union. Myllykoski will continue to invest in the personal and professional learning and growth of Myllykoski's employees.
Environment
The environment is an important consideration in all operations and a part of business in Myllykoski. Myllykoski adheres to environmental legislation and regulations. The companies actively follow discussion on the subject and take action as required by national and international demands.
The need for sustainable development is taken into consideration in all phases of production. In the planning of products and production processes, attention is paid to safety of use, efficient use of energy and raw materials, minimising environmental effects, recycling and safe disposal of wastes.
We view the sustainable resource management an important part of our business. This is demonstrated by our use of recovered paper and the strong growth in the share of wood from certified forests
Competition laws
The competition laws are a critical part of global business environment in which Myllykoski operates. They govern a wide range of our business activities, including setting prices, purchasing, selling and marketing goods.
All employees of Myllykoski do comply with all applicable competition laws, policies and treaties, as well as competition law decrees, orders and undertakings affecting Myllykoski and its employees. In everyday work this means that the employees do not propose or enter into any illegal agreements or understandings, express or implied, formal or informal, written or oral with any competitor regarding any aspect of the competition between Myllykoski and the competitor for sales to third parties. Myllykoski maintains adequate compliance programmes and training for its employees.
Implementation
The compliance commitment in this Code extends to all matters, including decisions relating to trade, investment, subcontracting, supplying, business development, and in all other business and employment relationships. Myllykoski's approach to implementing this Code of Conduct will be active, open and ethically sound.
It is the responsibility of each Myllykoski employee to promote this Code. Questions about the application or meaning of any provisions of this Code, or potential violations of the Code are to be reported to superiors. Where serious allegations are concerned, fair and comprehensive investigations will be conducted by those in line management closest to the issue. If this is inappropriate, more senior managers should be notified.
Acts inconsistent with this Code must be promptly corrected and are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Myllykoski Corporation will ensure that there will be no adverse work-related consequences as a result of an employee bringing complaints of violations of this Code.
